John Bergwyn Green
Born in Staffordshire, John studied
fine art at Nuneaton School of Art and graduated from Wolverhampton
College of Art in 1971. He moved to London to pursue a career in
advertising and illustration, subsequently becoming a successful
book illustrator. He continues to be commissioned by major publishers
both in the UK and the United States.
Throughout his commercial career John has continued to paint.
He has exhibited regularly at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters
and the Mall Galleries and at many other established galleries in London,
Surrey and the South East. John had a one man show in Mayfair in 2001
and Virginia Water in 2002 and 2003.
John paints figurative and still life subjects. In 2001, John
painted the Bishop of Guildford, the Right Reverend John Gladwin. This
portrait now hangs in Guildford Cathedral. Many of John’s still life
subjects and portraits are painted in an egg tempera which is both
an exacting and technically demanding medium. These paintings reveal
real imaginative choice, composition and execution of subject matter.
John also works in oils and acrylics.
John undertakes portrait commissions – if you want to discuss
any potential project please contact: Robert or Darrell at the gallery.
